Negotiated Study 2- Beginnings of 'Brutto'

It's now time to start on our last project in University: Negotiated Study 2. I've got a fairly good idea of what I want to do, but I still have a few things to work out completely.

The concept is a horror game that takes a significant influence from grungy, gritty horror films, especially of the early VHS era. It will take a similar approach to atmosphere and style, with my imagery being 'dirtied' by noise and static, as if the player is watching a well worn videotape, and having substantial darkness in the game environment.

Storywise, I haven't yet fully written a basic plot, but I do have a setting and characters. The game would be set on an uncharted, unknown island which the player character is stranded upon with no memory of his past. It would play very similar to Amnesia, being in a first-person perspective so that you cannot see the player character's face (I'm aiming to exploit the fact that you can't see his face to benefit the story somehow), and gameplay involves solving puzzles while evading and running away from enemies and hazards. When being pursued, the player can hide and close your eyes to calm down, and during this time, the view will switch to the sight of your pursuer, to emulate the slasher-film cliche of featuring the killer's point of view.

The island's features will be heavily inspired by horror movie locations and terms, such as Camp Crystal Lake from the Friday the 13th series or The Metropol cinema from Demons.

The main feature will be the monsters the player encounter, as each one is unique and the player will be defenceless against them. They will be amalgamations of horror film icons, with features like bladed improvised weapons, horrific injuries, burnt skin, etc. This means that the majority will have human elements.

For now, I'm aiming to just press ahead with drawings.
